Email Verified Fantastic haunted house
My husband, son and I went this past Sunday night 10/27/24 and we had an amazing time in this haunted attraction! First of all, we had a $10.00 off coupon and for the price, it was well worth the money. The haunt lasted about 40 minutes and there were so many actors/characters inside to scare you. I actually screamed a few times which I usually don't because I am not easily scared. We will definitely be back next year! It was our second time attending and we were so impressed with our experience!

OK that was awesome!
Just went tonight with a group of friends. If you want to get a whole bunch of damn good screams and laughs in - you found your place to go. Honestly we were all big time impressed and had a blast.

Best in the USA!!
Iโm not an easy scare but boy, these guys got me. The rooms, the smells. Itโs very interactive, youโre pushing through things. The wait felt like nothing with all the fun attractions in the Midway! The actors were phenomenal, they knew exactly how to scare and when to scare. I think I even cried a little bit ๐ . This haunt is not your average cliche haunted house where they just jump out and scream โBoo!โ. They have specific scares for each room. They encoded many fears in me I didnโt even know were a thing! I came out trembling. The chainsaws sent me. I didnโt even know I was scared of being kidnapped until this. I can assure you, you will not waste one penny! If you want a scare come to Gateways Haunt Playhouse!!

Email Verified So worth it!!
This haunted house exceeded my expectations as the actors and their makeup/costumes were great and there were so many different themed rooms which kept you on your toes. It lasted about 25 minutes so you definitely got your moneyโs worth. They have a good system in which you donโt have to wait in a line but rather can walk around and grab some food/drinks and hangout until your # is called. Overall it was a great experience and I will recommend it to others!

Just as described...
this was one of the best haunts my family and I have done in awhile. The common area with food and drink purchase available before your number is called was much better than the conventional line setup. The haunt itself was well done... the actors were engaged. the sets were detailed and fun. transitions were well thought out...just a great collection of scares. i only wish it was less of a assembly line experience, quite crowded at certain points making it less scary. overall, highly recommend.
Scare Factor: Fun Factor: Haunt Value: Gateway's Haunted Playhouse replied Sep 24, 2024Thank you - Yes a few nights of the year it gets very busy. Never as busy or conga line like at universal, but our haunt is much longer the multiple 7 minute haunts, so occasionally we do get backed up. Week nights and Sundays are usually slower.

Email Verified Loved the ambience
Loved the ambience and the entire team. I was there with my kids and we had a wonderful time. The playhouse was designed so well. They let just enough people on so we did not have the issue of being overcrowded while exploring the scenes. That made the experience even more scary. We made it through all the rooms and was terribly scared. It is our 3rd year in the row and we are sure to come back.

Email Verified Pretty awesome
It was pretty awesome and well done. The set design, rooms, and props were impressive. Actorsโ makeup and costumes looked realistic. I was impressed by the sound effects. In one room, I thought I was walking on water, but instead it was smoke. Few of the jump scares caught me off guard. Overall, it was great fun. I totally recommend this haunt to all scare lovers out there.

Awesome experience. My husband, son and I had an absolute blast!! The playhouse was unique from other haunts. It was eye catchy with lots of props and animatronics. Nice effects, impressive design on the sets. The showmanship of the staff was well played. Totally worth it.

The drive there was scarier than the actual house
Iโve visited a new haunted house every year for the past 10 years and this one didnโt really scare me the way I though, given the โreally scaryโ rating. Out of about 30 rooms that I think I went thru, maybe about 3 where actually unique and scary( one of which resembled an โeyes wide shut โ mask with the long bird nose, where there was a room full of the same character but they didnโt really move) . The setup is convenient since u can get drinks and food while u wait, which is really helpful if thereโs a long wait. Ps I bought my tix online , my card was charged, but I never recvd my confirmation code, then I was made to pay again when I arrived.

Email Verified Different from others
It was great fun at the playhouse. It was quite different from other haunt houses. It was more fun and a bit of eerie in there. Definitely there were some scary parts and we did feel fear. Kids are sure to feel intrigued with a lot of doll stuff looking scary. The presentation was remarkable. A lot of effort has gone into the making and the actors did a tremendous job. We loved our time there.

I and wife drove for more than an hour to reach Gatewayโs and we were quite impressed. The half an hour walk was quite scary and entertaining. The room had separate themes and creepy interiors. The scare intensity was good, but I would want more intense scares. Staff was helpful and friendly. Actors were passionate and professional. Totally worth the money and time. Certainly I would suggest this haunt to my friends.

Email Verified The Scariest
This haunt goes totally out of the box to give you the heebie jeebies. I never get scared and I mean NEVER REALLY scared and this REALLY scared me this year. I was literally out of breath and shaky when I came out. These spooks give. it. their. all. Plus the haunt was so long!! We had to be in there 30 mins or longer. If youre looking for a REAL scare this halloween season, Gateway is the place to go. Would give this haunt 6/5 if I could.

Email Verified Nice evening with friends...
It was an hour long drive but it was worth the effort and the investment. It offered so much better experience than other haunt houses I have visited. Was there with a bunch of my friends and we had a blast. The name sounded like it was more of fun and no scares. But this one definitely scared us. Loved the way it was set up. The props and animatronics was good. It all reminded of a scary doll house. The actors brought in their skills with loads of histrionics. It was a nice evening with friends.

Email Verified Excellent sets
We loved every part of Gatewayโs. We took just about 30 minutes to go through the entire haunt. Excellent sets, props, scares and special effects. The element of distraction was used to maximum effect in the haunt. When your focus is off, some jump scare happens or a scare actor appears out of nowhere scaring the crap out of you. We screamed couple of times. Actors were awesome and they stayed in character. Well worth the drive and money. We canโt wait to go back next year.

Email Verified An entertaining experience!
This place is more than those other gory, grabby haunted houses; this is a real experience! The "haunted house" is themed, which I think is really cool. I loved coming to the playhouse because of the actors! They're so committed to staying in character and do a wonderful job! And come ready to play along with them! The wait to enter the "haunted house" is a little bit long, but it's well worth it! The walk through is lengthy and I'd say there are more actors than props, which I really respect. Besides, there's plenty to eat and drink while you wait and entertainment too! The Haunted Playhouse is definitely something you can plan on spending a chunk of your evening enjoying! It's a really enertaining experience!

Great Fun. Lots of Scares, sounds, smells, and haunts
This is a great haunted house. Lots of twists , turns, uneven floors, smells, sounds, actors that stare you down till you cant take it anymore. At least a half hour walk. Not those lousy ten minute walks. Great fun. Don't miss it.

Don't even think about it, JUST GO!
I just got back from the BEST Haunted Attraction (and I have been to many). These people actually WANT TO scare you and they do a fantastic job of it !Be prepared to use all of your senses as you navigate your way through this haunted place! Visually the costumes are perfect and the props are realistic. The actors look deranged and the place looks like something out of your worst nightmare. From hanging body bags to complete darkness where you have to feel your way around, you have absolutely no idea what awaits you . The smells alone make you want to question your own sanity. I wasn't sure if I was smelling something bizarre or if I was just losing my mind. After ahwile I found myself tasting what I was smelling. What a unique experience. The sounds were terrifying as well. This was NOT A BUNCH OF KIDS ANNOYINGLY SCREAMING IN YOUR FACE. From moans or torture to snake-like hissing, the sounds were ones of fear and distress. Sometimes the lack of noise and macabre stares were more unnerving than any sounds the human body can actually product. The best part is that it's not a basic walk through haunt. Of course you do walk through but there are twists and turns, corridors, tight places and different stairs and levels throughout. It's also both indoors and outdoors...How cool is that ! Thank you for such a wonderful job. Your efforts are evident and appreciated. Great way for adults to get a chance to enjoy Halloween !

Fantastic Opportunity to Enjoy Halloween !
Absolutely the Best Haunted Attraction ! ( and I have been to many). They actually WANT to SCARE YOU TO DEATH! From the actors, to wardrobe designers and makeup artists, this is professionally done. Be prepared to have them invoke all of your senses in the ultimate fright experience. The costumes are AWESOME, these people look like a bunch of deranged freaks. Take a minute to actually look at the props they use: the stuff looks like it something out of a torture chamber ! Even though the actors are not suppose to touch you , be prepared to feel around in the darkest areas, run into body bags and grab hold of whoever is with you to hide from the fear. The smells are bizarre too...I actually though I was just losing my mind with these horrid smells ! That was totally cool...after ahwile I felt like I was tasting what I was smelling! The noises were perfect as well. I am calling them noises because they were NOT A BUNCH OF ANNOYING SCREAMERS. The sounds were more like tortured moans, cries for help, snake like hisses, inappropriate laughter and just plain noises you expect out of a psycho place. My absolute favorite is that it's not a basic walk through...there are different levels, stairs, corridors and both indoor and outdoor parts. Thank you for a wonderful production. You guys really do a magnificent job and provide a really fearful and fun attraction . A great way for adults to enjoy Halloween. Seriously, just go, don't even think twice about it!

A must go !
This was hands down the best haunted attraction i have ever been to .The $25 cover charge was well worth the experience. The actors, the scenery, the horrid smells, the special effects were all superb. This was not your run of the mill, great adventures "fright fest" haunted attraction. This was a scene straight out of a horror flick. The actors get up close and personal. You are challenged to walk through a corridor of hanging body bags, walk across a floor that is made to feel as if it is sinking all the while you are frightened as to what lies around the corner. A+++. Thank you for the terrific.. or horrific...night !

So worth it!!!!'
I go to as many haunts as I can during this time and Gateway has definitely hands down been my favorite. Lines weren't bad at all and if you have to wait there are things to do to keep you busy there such as games, shows and food and drinks. The actors got me good on more then one occasion. For the price and how long it takes to go through I couldn't ask for any better. This was first time ever going here because it's so far from me but there is no doubt in my mind that I will be coming back every year from now on. By far my favorite haunt. ??

The perfect fright night date night!
This is by far my favorite haunt! Gateway's Haunted Playhouse is such a great experience and every year is refreshed. The costumes and sets are theatrical and nothing short of AMAZING. Def get some good scares every year! Outside, in the Beer (fear) Garden, is a nice waiting place; drink and snack in a Halloween themed set-up. It's all organized very well so even if there's a wait, it's entertaining the whole time. This is my #1 haunted house go-to place year after year. ?

Extremely Scary
I have been to many Haunted attractions over the years (including professional) and this is by far one of the BEST Haunted Houses I have ever been to. There are a lot of actors who continuously scare you in both "pop" outs as well as "acting". The attraction utilizes a range of effects to give you an experience you won't forget! By far one of the best Haunted Houses. Don't miss it!

Great time and a great haunt
I visited Gateway Haunted House on a first date and it didn't disappoint! From the time you pull into the lot the experience begins, a little mystery, a little whimsical, and a lot of fall!!! Once inside the playhouse was GREAT!!! The scenery changes, it involves indoor and outdoor experiences, and requires you to move around a lot. It isn't just walking down a hallway with a person who follows you. The smells, sounds, and actors costumes were great! Me and my date both had a wonderful time and would definetly go again!

BEST Haunt on LI
Deciding where to go this Halloween season? The Gateway should be your 1st choice. This is a professional haunt filled with actors, after all, this is a playhouse. This year has outdone all other years. It's endless. The actors are incredible. It's not your usual pop up scare house. This will surprise you and trust me, you haven't seen one as good as this one.

Awesome haunted house
I have been to a few over the years, but never to a 'preview night' of a haunted house- it was great. If it was a preview I am intrigued to see the final product. I was more than impressed. It was a great night out and top notch show. It had some very scary moments and overall lots of fun and worth it. The actors and sets are amazing. I am going back for Halloween.

"Best" haunt experience
Top notch haunt. I've been taking my kids and neices and nephews for 4 years straight! This is always our first haunt of the season, and always the best! Long wait doesn't seem long under the snack/beer tent and plenty of entertainment while you wait.

Definitely got your moneys worth
Overall experience wasn't terrible, but could have been better. A couple that was ahead of our small group got the most enjoyment, but ruined the "spook" and creepy" aspect of it that we all wanted. The props were interesting and had the smells and sites matched perfectly. Total wait time was about 20-25 minutes, and the attraction felt like it was about 30-40 minutes itself. There were a lot of dead points that could have had more activity also.

Best on long island
This was the best one I have been to on long island. Have been to many of the haunted houses around here. But this one was the best,at probably 25 minutes from entry to exit. The actors were committed to the work, they put full effort into scaring. The environment and decor of are top notch, to the point even some rooms actually smell horrible to match the props.this is a must experience.

From Haunter to Haunter
Ok, Halloween is my favorite time of the year and I never feel complete without going to a haunted house. Working in one I don't have the luxury of going to one on the weekends. Being that you were opened on one of our off nights was a God sent cause I finally got to visit the haunted playhouse. First off, your sets are amazing. I knew it was going to be great because of your sets, The maze, the layout, the long walk through made it top notch just from those alone. It made it go longer, it was spookier, and made it visually and psychologically amazing and worth it. I was blown away from all the new surprise elements. Actors were great. Characters were creative but the makeup lacked. We went on an off night, but I'm sure y'all rock it on the weekends. I was hoping for more but the ones that were good, they were good. The kid actors added to it for sure. You fulfilled my haunting hunger and I will be back. I can't wait to see what you guys have in store for the future and hope you continue to develop. coming from another haunter, major props. A must see and deserve the recognition.

Really long and that's about it
Gateway was a big disappointment this year. The actors really aren't great, most of them are in mediocre makeup and they just stare at you. There's not nearly enough jump scares or anything scary happening period. You can tell that they put a lot of work into it but I can't help but feel letdown regardless. Maybe Gateway should focus on making a smaller and scarier haunt instead of just dragging it out when nothing really interesting happens

Holy Crap!!
Wow!!!!! I do not scare easily AT ALL but this scared the crap out of me!!! They really put you in some scary situations! At numerous points in the walk I had to run as fast as I could leaving my party behind to bypass the room completely because I was terrified! The actors and actresses are pretty scary as well but the actual physical situations you are put in room to room are super scary! You have to experience this!

Very well done!
This attraction is set up well. You don't have to wait on a long irritating line. You can just hang around, enjoy some hot apple cider and other fall things! When your number is called you just go right in with your group. As for the actual house, it was very good! There are many changes in scenery and the actors are very good too. I didn't think it was that scary but this is coming from the person that goes to sleep watching horror films. The rest of my friends thought it was pretty scary! Some place I'd probably come back to!

Fantastic
I can't believe I've never heard of this place before! That said, I can't wait to go back next year (or who am I kidding, maybe a second round this season). Our group had actually gone to a different LI haunted house an hour before this one and we were pretty disappointed. Well let me tell you, there's no comparison. The actors, makeup, scenery, and entire experience were amazing. The walk through is easily 30 minutes as we were told. I thought it was very well organized and we only passed another group once from a distance so it really felt like we had the place to ourselves. And I loved that while we waited for our group to be called, there was a whole outdoor area with food, a bar, and a DJ to pass the time. As someone who loves Halloween and anything horror, I was impressed. Great job Gateway!

Coming Back!! Best ever!!
This year I went to the haunted house in previews, on a friday. I shouldn't have gone during previews, though. I heard from a worker that it was only 70% done. It was AMAZING for only 70%!!!! I would have never known. I am coming back to see what this wonderful, insane masterpiece is in it's entierty. My favorite part was when I was walking in a maze thingy and I had to go on a school bus. I think the kids are super talented. Also, I liked the weird nurse lady. Tell her that she is horrific if you see this!! I have been to many haunts all over new york, but this one is certainly the best by far. Everything about it, from the adults, to the kids, to the sets, Gateway is the best even in previews!!

Usually the best, we still love you though!
This is the ONLY haunt we we cannot wait for every year. Always impressed with the actors and realistic themes. We went on opening weekend because it was almost half price. I must say the theme was a great idea, we did have fun but it seemed to lack something. We walked forever without seeing any actors at all. Usually it's packed with scares around every corner, this year it seemed to be a little boring. Much of the sets were the same as last year but many more animatronics. I won't say it was horrible this year but we were definitely disappointed. Hopefully next year they will come back and be better than ever. Maybe this year was just a fluke because 2013 was the best EVER. Still love Gateway and would recommend the visit, it beats out most haunts, even at it's worse!

Awesome!
I went with my boyfriend and it was awesome. We were both scared and screaming! The actors throughout the entire house we're incredible. We will definitely be back next year! We can't wait to see what The Gateway has in store next year. Thank you for an awesome scare!

Gateway is always number 1!
Gateway is the best haunted house i have ever been to! You will not be disappointed! i suggest you go on a week night this way you will not waste time waiting on a line. They are a theater usually and are able to use their crew to create this elaborate haunted house. Everything has been throughly researched and goes with the story line that changes yearly. Also your experience changes nightly. I went 3 nights in a row and each experience was completely different. I have acted in a haunted house before and know the tricks and i still left having screamed and jumped through out the whole haunt. Also its $30 for 30 minutes of haunting and if you think about it that way its really not that extensive besides the fact its totally worth it. And you can get discounts if you buy tickets on their website. So all in all best haunted house ever!!!!! Keep it going Gateway!!!

One of the Best Haunted Houses I have ever been to
I've been going to Gateways Hauted House for about 4 years now and it changes evey year and it never disapoints us. The props, the actors and spooky story makes it by far one of the best haunted houses there is and I've been to many all over the USA.

what used to be great is now mediocre
In past years this has always been one of my favorites, but this year they lost a step. The story line was confusing, the actors were unenthusiastic and untrained. The biggest problem was the shear volume of peoplethey try to push through the haunt. How are you supposed to be scaired or startled when you see whats going to happen when it happens to the group in front of you? I believe they had over a 1000 vistors the night I atrended with the average cost being $30... thats $30000 a night. Slow it down gateway, people are paying good money for the event...do 700 guests instead, youll still make your money. Also give your actors some training make it worth the drive and the money

Not horrible, but not amazing
I definitely enjoyed myself going through Gateway. The sets are very elaborate and they make the best use of their space, but unfortunately the actors aren't up to par. There was very little interaction from them; most of them would just stand there and not say a single word or utter a noise at all. The make-up was also very minimalistic.

Really Scary...read on..
Anyone looking for a REALLY SCARY Haunted House to visit for the Halloween season should check out Gateways Haunted Playhouse in Bellport. I went with my kids tonight and OMG!!!! It was REALLY SCARY for sure. It was voted #1 Haunted House on LI and they deliver. Trust me if my daughter did not lead us through I would still be in there somewhere. Have Fun!!

Better every year!
This year was great! Scared me good! Actors, props, effects rocked! Only one criticism: tell the actors to NOT scream directly in patron's ears! It's not scary; it's simply infuriating and, quite frankly, painful to the ear. Otherwise, kudos to all for a great haunt!

Well done and professional
This haunted house was so put together unlike the usual hole in the walls throughout Long Island and even NYC. I has a couple of good scares and was so impressed with the set up. It's at least 35 minutes and had so many actor everywhere. I love the waiting area set- up and the professional employees. It's so worth the money! Go there, you won't be disappointed. Good time, forget the rest

Great job
My daughter son-inlaw 17 yr old granddaughter my husband and myself went this past weekend. We feel it rates up there amongst the plays gateway provides.Haunted house was much larger than we thought and superb.A must go

GET HERE NOW!!!! Amazing Haunted House!
I heard about this Haunted House, I am from Maine and have been to Haunted Houses all over the country. I decided to head to Long Island to check this one out after hearing all about it. I want to start by describing the waiting experience. Although the wait times vary, it was well worth it and the wait went fast because of the actors outside. They were so professional and stayed in character superbly. They could use maybe 2-3 more out there due to the large crowds. When you walk into the house you walk up steps and immediately notice the theme of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Walking through what seemed to be an old attic was so creepy. You then enter the outside part of the maze. There is a room with what appears to be a man lady and as he is distracting you a frantic male pops out and is extremely scary. You continue through the maze and arrive at different characters. You then enter a door and get inside the house. The different rooms were amazing and the precise detail is insane. There are heavy bags that appear to be bodies. They are so realistic. You enter a mine and there are a couple people. The mine was probably one of the creepiest parts. You hear whistling and the scares are endless. A boy scares you into a pitch black hallway. The pitch black hallway is the best part. I'm not going to give it away but it is awesome. You are scared into a room of young screaming children and led throughout the rest of the haunt. The effects are insane and the cast is amazing. The makeup and set is so amazing. The makeup is very detailed and looks so cool. Very long path almost 35 minutes! Awesome scares. Well worth the trip. Definitely one of the best Haunted Houses in the country! Make sure you get there!!!!!

Great Haunted Experience
This Haunted House was really a blast. Not only was it scary and exciting...if you were able to take some time to appreciate all the elaborate work that went into making it what it was, it was truly a spectacle. It remained true to it's theme throughout. This was my wife's first haunted house....and it was a great one at that!

Thoroughly enjoyed this haunt!!
We purchased general admission tickets off Facebook and were able to use a coupon...therefore we paid $20 a ticket. We arrived around 6:45 and there weren't many people ahead of us. There was a bar and snack area set up for the wait and hey opened the doors at 7:00. We waited another 20 minutes inside since many people purchased fast pass and were allowed in ahead of us. Once we walked through the doors and up the stairs I personally was terrified and shaking. The actors were GREAT and kept to characters without flinching. They saw how scared I was and really took advantage of it!! It was all in good fun and I had a great time. My sister had fun too and was just as scared as I was. Of course our husbands claimed they weren't that surprised by anything...but I don't believe either one!! All in all a great night out...worth the money and wait time.

Truly Something Special
I traveled to New York this past weekend to visit some of the big, well known, highly advertised haunts in New York City. While waiting for upwards of an hour to go through one of the over hyped haunts, my group started talking to another group who were raving about this haunted house on Long Island that they had gone to the night before. That haunt was Gateway's Haunted Playhouse. They refused to spoil anything about the haunt and urged us to make the drive to Bellport, NY and experience Gateway for ourselves. We were not disappointed.I will try not to spoil any of the scares for you, but I will say that the storytelling that links the whole haunted house together is unique and entertaining. The actors are terrific. At first I was skeptical of how a haunted house that uses a lot of underage children could be terrifying. I was wrong. When your walking outside through a labyrinth of wooden pallets and suddenly you hear/see dead looking children reciting nursery rhymes and disappearing in a flash, it's scary. Just when you think you have the rhythm of the maze figured out, it opens up to reveal various stages where freak show performers are waiting to scare the hell out of you. Lizard Man, Pinhead, Dog Boy, and the Bearded Lady were all great. The ticket taker at the beginning of the freak show had my friend in stitches one second and cowering the next. Somewhere along the way a cannibal cook scared whatever courage and pride we had left right out of us. It was a nonstop, scare after scare, roller coaster. Then you go back inside the house, where the haunt continues and some of the best special effects I've ever experienced in a haunted house are used. I want to keep typing out about everything we experienced but truthfully I've gotten myself more and more excited and eager about Gateway. I literally just stopped typing, went in the other room and asked my husband if he wanted to make the 100 mile drive to go again. He said of course. If you're thinking about going, go. You won't be disappointed. See you again soon Gateway!!

Best haunt on long island, without a doubt!
I've gone on opening night the past three years, and look forward to this haunt all year round. Same as the last two years, this house did not dissapoint one bit! As a horror/halloween fanatic, I'm generally a tough critic because i've seen them all. Gateway is worth my time to give a review though. The inside of the house (and outdoor parts) are pretty scary, truly creative, and they're changed up every year! I also love their monsters who walk around while you wait. At no place in gateway are you safe from a scare! :) Love that they have cider and refreshments while you wait, as well as an awesome side show! It's open rain or shine, and very organized as far as the line/wait times. I've recommended this haunt to many, and hope that it continues to run for many more years to come!

Not What I expected.
This year was my first time going to Gateway. From the outside, it looks nice and clean and not at all frightening. Inside provided a completely different experience. It felt as thought i was in there for more than an hour when it was actually about 30 minutes. So much went into putting this together. I felt as though i was in a Horror movie which made it even better. Loved it and will gladly go again!

It was great-
I brought my granddaughter and one of her friends to the playhouse and they were really scared and had a great time. It was my first time but I will be back.

ONE OF THE BEST!!!
Definitely one of the best haunted houses I have visited. I was there this weekend and I LOVED IT!!! The wait was long but worth it. My only complaint was the rude cashier at the concession stand. Otherwise, the special effects were great and the actors were scary. Hands down one of the best Haunted houses I have ever visited.

Gateway does it the best
We usually visit all the local Haunted Houses and travel to at least one remote new one every year. Out of all of them there is something about Gateway that just completely stands out. There is so much though involved and their system of waiting to enter is hands down the best. I think Darkside also does a great job, but Gateway is the best.

Not only an awesome haunt ... very cool waiting area !
The Haunt was AWESOME ! At every turn there was something unexpected. At one point I thought I was being engulfed by some kind of parachute air bag type thing - for me ... that was the worst (best) part ! I thought I'd never come out of it ! Also - it seems like they piped in children reading from some kind of Grimm style horror tail that just added to the insanity. I didn't mind waiting to go under the tent they made it so festive with characters coming in and out. There was food and stuff ... beer/wine, etc - very cool place !!
Posted October 2013 -
they keep it fresh and terrifying.
you will never go through the same haunt twice here. every year its changed and i feel liek it keeps getting scarier and scarier and more professional!kudos to gateway playhouse. it was great.

Absolutely Terrifying! The Best! #1 Halloween attraction Ever!
The Gateways Haunted Playhouse is by far the best and scariest attraction I have ever been to. I highly recommend it to everyone of age. I was greatly impressed. There was so many actors it was unbelievable. The cost was worth every cent and I'm already looking foward to next year

Best Haunted House EVER!!!
I went through the haunted house last weekend and I was scared to the point of tears! I loved the room that resembled the Pied Piper (I think). I saw signs and I was all like "Oh Lord!" and then I was scared so bad :{ I also loved when there was a creepy Rapunzel thingy crawling around! The kids added a great touch to the thrill. It's insane to think about how much time these kids; let alone adults work and devote themselves to scaring you! I tried to get some actors to break and they didn't. I also loved the creepy Hansel and Gretel. The makeup is INSANE! If you are looking for a great haunted house, come visit Gateway! You will have a boo-tiful time! :)

Best on Long Island
If you're not into the lame "Booo" haunted houses make the trip to Gateway.

STILL GREAT
Went on 10/4/2013, havent been here since 2011. Theme has changed, some rooms have changed also. Actors are awesome as usually, the part where the material/walls close in around you is awesome. The many rooms with strobe lights, fog, and the "meat" hanging from chain is disoreintating, and awesome! Had a great time as always, BUY tickets on line! And get there at 7, and the wait is not bad at all--the outdoor part while waiting is cool--you could get a drink while waiting. The longest haunted house i know of on long island was about 35 to 40 minutes long. The only things you can do to make it even better:Just some more actors outside while people are waiting, maybe even in the parking lot while getting out of your car, if you are waiting online to buy tickets, and more in the area where people can sit and wait to go in.Also, if there is more outdoor property, maybe expand the outside part even more, that would be super scary, if possible to do.Great job as always! Very very entertaining!
Went first night this year and we were not disappointed! Very we'll done and great production as they have in the past. Loved the freak show theme. My kids want to go back, and I don't mind the wait time in the beer tent!

Very Very Cool!!
Warning! SPOILERS! This place is so cool! The theme is like quarantine/ mental asylum/ creepy medical stuff for the most part but they have other elements in there too. You can clearly tell that they put a lot of effort into it and lots of detail. This is so long! Probably like around a half hour the walk is like 2/3 inside and 1/3 outside. You start out inside and up down stairs, then theres a point where you get separated from your group! this part freaked me out! They made me and my friend go one way while the other 10 people went the other way! they led us from a back route and they followed us and said creepy things to us. Then you go to the outside part which is like a maze and at one point you have to step through a van! Then you go back inside and its a total maze. You go up and down stairs, theres strobe light for part of it, body bags that feel VERY realistic not your usual crap, and very very disturbing things like a baby being born and having its head ripped off, a REAL LIVE NAKED man, a transvestite like person who tries to seduce you, a weird creature(human actually) crawling around on the floor and a lot a lot more!!!! They sniff you, they breathe on you, they get in your face, they follow you, they try to get in your mind, sometimes they scream at you, they really do a great job of freaking you out! They make the place smell like human bodies rotting and waste at certain points and sometimes you feel like you're walking on bodies. There's spots where the floor moves a little, a mirror room, a creepy clown room (but not the crap the other haunted houses do the guys bite their balloons and do weird stuff). You have to climb up and down stairs a lot but it makes the experience a lot better. There's a lot of weird mental patients and scary doctors and the such. They do not touch you but they do like drag doll heads and hair across your face and stuff. There's tons of actors and they are absolutely fantastic. I wasn't too scared but a lot of people in our group were screaming their heads off and running. If you are scared, they will go after you more and they will keep following you! This place is a psychological, intense, freaky journey. The detail they put in is spectacular and you really don't know what's coming around each corner! They do a great job of surprising you and really getting in your head. I only give them 4 pumpkins out of 5 because I didn't get scared really but I did have a great great time! Don't go here if you are faint of heart but do go if you want to experience a really creepy journey. Great job guys, 100% the BEST haunted house on Long Island and probably one of the best on the east coast. This is not your typical haunted house with high school kids in masks scaring you. This is real actors with professional makeup who never break character. Another great thing is that you don't wait on line, they give you a number and you can hang out, grab a drink eat some snacks and chill out under this tent until you're being called. They have actors walking around before you get in too. So for a great time, I really recommend coming here and then voting for them for long island's best haunted house on the news 12 website. they're in the lead already which just proves they are the best. You guys did an AMAZING job! Will definetly go again next year

It's a must for all to experience.
First of all this is not a traditional haunted house. So take those expectations and stick em. This is very much an interactive, sensory demanding, great experience. Head to gateways web site and read the premiss behind this attraction. The are questions and answers. I recommend taking your time. The detail is amazing. The staff is a full time theater group who eat, sleep, & breath production/execution. Who cares if an actor jumps out and spooks you, they're supposed to. This is the type of place where you have to go back a couple times to consume all the detail. The staff is super friendly, the campus is amazingly kept, they offer an array of concessions, & plenty of space even at capacity. I am a fellow clown in more of a traditional haunted house on the Suffolk/Nassau border and I love this place. Like I said there is a story behind the design and execution, by no means is this your average run of the mill haunted house. I can't wait to go back!! Thanks for the royal treatment. Keep on keeping on!! AAA+++

Losing its charm
When I first went to this haunted house 2 years ago it was awesome, actors were coming at you unexpectedly scaring you, and making you jump, people sneaking up behind you yelling and screaming. last year was okay, not as good as two years ago and this year its more someone gets in your face and stares at you and even when you try to act scare to motivate them to do more like yell or scream at you to startle you all they do is just stand there and stare at you.... I will admit there was one actor in the entire haunted house that did scare me because he cornered me with a knife in his hand asking me for my head, so that was a good part, but one scare for a 30 minute haunted house?, totally not worth it, they need to get back to what they were doing 2 years ago and focus more on actors than props and scenery....
Posted October 2012 -
amazing
it was definitely the best haunted house ever

the best!!!
No doubt this is the scariest and most elaborite haunted house!

Great
Great Expirence and awesome actors and scenory. The only strange part was a naked man laying on the floor... other than that, it was the best one I've ever been to.

Absolutely Outstanding !!!!
Absolutely outstanding!!! This one very well may have the most passionate and talented actors In the industry. Places like the great Bayville scream Park may have nothing on these guy's acting skills. Any one of the scenes could just as well be in a high-end Hollywood horror film. The haunt took about 35 minutes to complete. Many helpful and friendly staff here highlight the dedication. Truly a secret for all who know about this hidden Horror. I believe five stars may not be enough. Thank you all involved for your talent and hard work. Bravo

Review from a haunted house designer
My name's Kevin Baird, one of the creators of Darkness Rising in Massapequa. I had the pleasure of visiting Gateway's Playhouse tonight... it was a great experience. The set design from start to finish was amazing and the opening rooms in particular were impressive due to their size alone. Lots of very professional actors who did a great job getting into their roles and staying in character and a friendly staff as well. This isn't just one of the best haunts on the island but one of the best I've ever been to. Great job guys, look forward to coming back next year!

best haunted house on long island
First of all, let me say thank you to the producers of this haunted house for being original and not feeling the need to put in a guy with a chainsaw, a clown room, or that annoying plastic thing that you have to push through. This haunted house is a game changer. I've been to many haunted houses on long island but this blows them all out of the water. The production quality is incredible. The amount of effort that went into building this haunt is stunning. For all 30 minutes of the walk through every square inch is detailed to the tee. The actors are great and get some awesome scares in. I truly felt like I was in a real quarantine zone, that's how much work went into this place. If there is only one haunted house you could go to this Halloween season, come to this one, it will not disappoint. Awesome job guys.

AWESOME!!!!
I have been going to Haunted Houses since I was little and this by far is the best on Long Island. The theme is pretty cool. Everyone in the town gets infected with a disease and are in your face at all times. One of my favorite parts was when they split my friends and I up and my group went to this creepy cop who was brought us outside and was completely terrifying us. We had some stupid teenagers that unfortunately got separated with us and messing with the actor. He let them talk and then out of no where he flipped. He chased one of the girls and she fell in the mud... He then just let loose and showed no mercy. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! During the village maze she was crying hysterical and realized that she pooped herself and her friends had to get her out. The only thing I think they could have done was putting more people in the room in the beginning until when they split you up. More cops in your face I believe would freak more people out. OVERALL! AWESOME!!!!

All I can say is WOW
I was at the Haunted Playhouse on Saturday night. It was fantastic, one of the best I have ever been to. It took about 30 minutes from start to finish and was 30 minutes of complete terror. I think the makeup and costumes of the actors were first-rate. They really did a great job. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a good haunted house!
Posted October 2012 -
Incredible!
I don't know what the best part of this was... The sets were incredible, the makeup was perfect, the actors were all amazing. I love haunted houses, but this one is by far the best one on Long Island!!

So freaking good!
I've heard great things about this place and wanted to check it out for myself! I went Saturday Oct 6th... The wait went pretty quick and I loved that I could grab a beer while u wanted. I didn't have to stand on line. It took like 30 min to walk through but i swear it felt like I was in there for an hour! The actors were amazing. They were all different with different purposes! Some screamed and others were just plain creepy... I couldn't help but think of "the walking dead" when there were zombie-like people sniffing me, like they were deciding whether or not to take a chunk out of me! And that "musky" smell another reviewer was talking about seemed pretty intentional to me... And if it wasn't well it totally grossed me out anyway. My friends and I are thinking about coming back on Halloween! Awesome haunted house overall. Def worth going

Felt like I was in a Horror Film
Went on Sunday night with my fiance and our couple friends. ย Since I was a kid ย I have been going to haunted houses, ย even our fave show is "The Walking Dead"- and I can say this is the best one I've ever been to. ย Gateway had a theme throughout like we were in a mental hospital and passing through different rooms of the hospital. It was soo long like 30-40 minutes to walk through. ย At times I wanted it to be over becuase my heart and nerves couldn't take it, but I am happy it was long lol. ย We got separated from our friends at one point and litterally running for our lives. ย When we all caught up, we held hands in a chain so to not loose one another again. ย At times I was panicking, screaming, and wanting to puke. ย My heart was racing. ย I screamed soo much, my throat is sore today. ย You seem to forget they are actors. ย Other great things about Gateway is that they have nice functional bathrooms, not disgusting outhouses like other places and a great system of waiting- they call your number while you sit and relax with your friends. ย Plus there is a concession stand with tables and music playing. ย The only one negative thing I have to say is that the actors blow on you and breath in your face- very unsanitary, good way to catch a cold or disease. So if your concerned about that, cover your mouth/nose. ย However, I am still giving this 5 pumpkins and recommending to everyone and will go back again this year. ย

Great! Completly great!
Im 16 yrs old, and I went in with my male cousin and 2 best friends. I was second in line and I bruised my cousins arm from holding on so tight. I WAS SO SCARED! At a point I started crying. This is really really good. Deffinatly worth 25$. The actors are great, DONT show your scared because they will bother you more. I sceamed "Im not scared" and that had to be the worst thing because they all came after me LOL. Its really really good. You'll sweat, scream, and cry. Have fun :)
Posted October 2012 -
Could have been much better
I went last night with a group of friends and wasn't at all impressed. I think it is a bit strange that almost every actor gets right in your face, like practically kissing you. That to me isnt scary.... creeping up is. The place was a bit musky also. Also, what the heck is with the naked guy at the end? Weird! I have been to quite a few haunted houses and this one just wasn't what it was led up to be. I think with more training and a better job with setting up this place has potential in the future. Glad I had $10 off coupon.

Awesome, Scary, Awesome!
I went with friends on Saturday night and it was a fantastic time. Almost 30 minutes of pure terror. The costumes and makeup were great and the actors were so outstanding. Its definitely not for little kids but I have to say it was the best haunted house I have ever been to.

yuck!
I was in a group with someone who POOPED THEIR PANTS, what at hoot! Gateway did a fantastic job, Im going back again
Posted October 2012 -
awesome.
I've been going to a half dozen or so haunted houses a year since I was a kid, and this is one of the best I've ever seeb. The walk was LONG (took my group over 30 mins) and was probably thirty 'rooms' or so, but that includes a giant outdoor section that took almost as long as a lot of other haunts in their entirety. The caged up kids were reeeeally disturbing, and the quality of the makeup, props, sets, and actors was top notch. One dude from the refugee camp kept freaking appearing in front of us all the way through, even after we left theactual haunt! By that point two of the girls in our group were literally crying and shaking. Awesome maze, cool (and strangely subtle) storyline, and super professional production values. Totally going back on Halloween weekend.
Posted October 2012 -
Best yet!
I have gone to this haunt for the last four years. I went Saturday night and i think this is the best year yet. No cheesy story this year, It just felt like you were being evacuated because of some disease, then shit starts going wrong. I was really into it this year, my favs were the creepy children trying to grab me through the Fence and the room with the Strobe light and like 15 doctors in it. I may bring some friends back later in the season. Wow!

Good props and set up... so so actors
The haunted house itself was nicely done. Lots to see... Many rooms an actors. I got there at 8:00pm on Saturday of their opening weekend. So we paid $15 to get in. After purchasing tickets, you proceed to a booth to get a line number so you don't have to wait in line. I thought this was a great idea and they even had a tent where chips, soda, beer and wine were served. However, I was told my approximate wait time was between 25-45 minutes. Fair enough. But we waited two hours! And since we were only two people, they had another couple join us. No big deal until the couple was saying how they talked their way to cut the line. Not fair!Inside the haunted house which lasted approximately 25 min, there were a lot of actors and nicely displayed props. It wasn't the scariest but the younger crowd Definitly were scared. I'm 29 btw. We were having a good time until security comes out no where and asks my husband and I if we threatened an actor! I'm sorry that's not our mo as we are a mother and father of two! Ruined te experience and the fact that they kept "checking" in on us. I felt it was ridiculous and the security felt like they were FBI! I tried to express my concerns but there was no one really there nor were thy apologetic.

Scary, Awesome, and Fun!
This is my third year going and Gateway never ceases to amaze me. Money definitely well spent, and I like the creative way they have you wait online. Thank you!

Last year was a little better, but still really good this year. Love this one so far its the best I went to. Just didn't like how some parts you walk you have the chance to like trip 3-4 times.

awesome scary and worth it
last night(opening nigh) my friend and i were bored at my house and my mom asked if we wanted to go to this haunted house. we looked it up watched the preview and thought we could never do it. Once we got there my mom and little sister chickened out. My friend who loves haunted houses told me i had to do it still. and we went in thinking since its open night it could either be really scary or pretty stupid. But coming out of there, we thought it was the scariest haunted house we went to in the past two years!!! it is so worth it. my mom said we were gone for 45-50minutes

Counting the days
I'm giving it 5 bats (uhhh ...pumpkins) cause it was so good last year and I can't wait for it to start again. Definitely going the first weekend because tickets are only $13.

Goooooooo!
This was awesome! Wen with my brother & sister on a Saturday night & the line to wait to buy tickets was a bit long but we got fast pass tickets, so we went & relayed with a beer while we waited about 45 minutes, The set was so innovative & creative, the actors were awesome & it was about 25 minutes long, so I feel we got our money's worth. It was really creepy; some of the images were so disturbing they definitely stay with you! Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good scare!

We were just there tonight it was great 20 dollars but it was worth it, I scream from the minute we got in until the end. Actors were great good job guys great job.

Don't miss!
This was great, original and long (35 minutes). I've been to a lot of haunted houses and this was one of my favorites.

Scary!!!
I went last night 10/22/11 and this was the most scariest haunted house by far!!! A group of friends came with me and thought this was awesome!!! I screamed the whole way through...I came out sweaty and my stomach and throat were killing me because of all the screaming!!!! I want to Congratulate All the Actors and actresses for the Great job they did!!!

Not worth the money nor the wait
I had read most of the reviews on this place before I went tonight and I was optimistic. From the moment I got there it was confusing. It was hard to figure out where to park first of all then had some confusion as to where to buy tickets. Then you had to wait on 2 separate lines and was told there would be an hour and 1/2 wait until you get in. I did not bring any extra cash with me as I did not think I would be waiting outside in 48 degree weather so could not take advantage of the concession stand. Then realized that there WAS an ATM but the beer was $6 - no thanks. After waiting 2 hours and 15 min I finally got to go in but was escorted in a group of 10 where I was towards the back of the group. Walking around this 35 min walk inside and out was not scary at all and quite boring and lame. I was very disappointed. It got a little scarier once I was separated from my group and did not know what to expect. I would not do this again. It needs to be better organized from beginning to end and DEFINITELY needs to be scarier. My $20 would be better spent on gas to go the Darkside Haunted house or to Schmitt's farms!

Gateway's Haunted House, Bellport, NY 11713
More funny than scary, but on par or better than Bayville. The maze is lengthy, and the time goes by surprisingly quick, with a good assortment and large number of actors. The strobe lights are slightly disorienting, almost as if the room is moving. There was an expected 2 hour wait, but, of course, we bought the 'fast pass' tickets for another $5 WHICH WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT. From the time we parked, we were entering the attraction within 10 minutes and were out a half an hour later. It is definitely a good local show for the price, provided you're not waiting on line for 2 hours. Don't expect to be scared, but entertained, yes.

Better Every Year!!!
This was the 3 rd year in a row....and by far the best!!! The actors were so in your face...they would not let up....my daughter could not shake em and they never cracked. We loved the murder suicide scene but would've liked for that part to involve us a bit somehow, maybe the girl could of begged us for help before.......well I don't want to give anything away. Also the outside ticket booths were great and the bar area being outside I thought was nice too. I love the whole compound feel of it. I refuse to go anywhere else because I don't see how anyone can do a better job than you guys.....I give u a standing O!!!!

HOLY $*&@! The actors were amazing! I went with my friend and she cried before we even got in! The get super close to you,my friend kept pusing me into them and hte folllowed us the whole way! But this id deff a 5 out of 5 stars, I would go back 1000 times it was totslly worst $20. This is not rated for kids under 13

amazing set ups - not enuf scares
went to last year's haunt and thought it was very diffrent and intense. This year not as much. at least there are no long lines this time, they have sitting waiting areas, drinks and snacks under a tent, and the facility was better all around,. the area where you wait to go in, was dull compared to last year. But on the plus side there was a freaky little girl,!! I don't want to give it away... The whole setting is perfect for a haunted house, you can't find much better on LI, and the sets and layouts people that work at this place know what they are doing. there are effects and flying and things moving, a few that are unlike the other haunts. the make up and costumes are great and don't have that cheezy drug store look. it is hard not to give them 5 bats for the way it looks, but if there was a rating just for scare factor, I would have to give it low bats. the adrenaline you build up walking thru a haunt scared was not there. it was long and that was good but there were places that you just looked at things and it didn't keep surprising you. the teen girls in front of us were screaming all the way thru, so they were scared. for buffs like us, it was more of a display. the hanging bag room, was good, the guy in there. maybe overall the actors were not as good but there were a couple of stand outs. mainly outside. there were enough actors but they weren't doing anything. The bus is still good. the beginning was better last year, there was a whole theme like a movie theme. it was telling the story and then a shock. there were more scares last year. this year there was a boring movie in the waiting area that made no sense and the theme was overall not as good. there was also a trick they played on you, maybe we missed it but it didn't happen to us. The price is good. They were crowded. they definitely made their mark. we had a good time going there but wanted more interaction and suspense. Next year split in half, one mild for the teen girls and one hot and spicy attraction for the over 18s.

Lost Their Touch!
I visited with a group of 6 and I was so excited as I had went to the house last year and expected even more this year but was sadly disappointed. I'm not saying they lost their touch with their sceneries... oh no, these were still great and very realistic but their actors WERE NOT as great as they were last year. In fact, they were very boring. This sucked because I had my friends come out from Nassau County to join me for a "scary" time and instead we got a museum experience. Even the guy in the strobed chainsaw room was not as good as the sweaty half naked man they had last year. Now that guy was SCARY! I would also give brownie points to the people in the scene where he shoots his wife then shoots himself. I was standing in the front row and it really felt like I got sprayed in her blood. Disturbing!!!! The actors in the pallet maze did try their best especially the tall guy who looked like a strange lanky scarecrow. You were scary man! Unfortunately, I will not be suggesting this haunt this year because it really wasn't scary. Nevertheless, I will return next year and try again as you guys do put a great level of effort into decorating. Hopefully, it will be decorated with great actors too next year. So I guess this year you walked away with $140 between 7 of us so you guys are laughing all the way to the bank on our account but I promise this could've been more if this were better this year.

Fun but not frightning!
I entered the haunted playhouse with shaking hands thinking it was going to be a lot scarier than it was. The setup was pretty amazing but I was waiting to scream my head off and it never happened. The actors/actresses played their parts well..The costumes and settings were very realistic. But when I see "The scariest haunted house on Long Island"..I'm expecting to exit the house sweaty, fear stricken and having heart palpitations. In reality..I left with a smile on my face and two 13 year olds with running mascara. They were terrified..I was laughing.I I'm not saying it wasn't a fun time..It just didn't frighten me the way I was expecting.

i went tonight expecting to be scared! while waiting a little ghastly girl , creepy man , runnig monnster romed the crowds as everyone waited for sure i thought inside awould be crazy the set up was amazing by far the best setup iv'e seen but i kept waiting for something to startle me or jump out and for me to be scared... it never happpend? there wer eamazing charctrs every where but they just stood or sat there at points they leaned towards you but never to the extenet that you'd be scared maybe it was an off night for them but i was extremly disssapointed i was really expecting to levave with goosebumps but the whole time i was just waiting for something that never happend.... =[

Simply the best
Don't see how you could give them a bad review, There preview night was better than most haunted houses every are. No cheesy animatronics or corny "3d" fx like another LI haunt i wasted my money at. Just real scary actors in a well designed haunt. I wish i could work there. you should go.

body bags!
This was THE best haunted house I've been to in years!! The rooms were twisted and the characters were soooo scary!! I couldn't catch my breathe in some rooms I was so scared! Esp. The room with hanging dead bodies wrapped in electrical tape! Everything looked so real! This haumted house was the way to start off the halloween season! Plus, u don't hav to wwait online! They have tables chairs food and benches u can chill on before u go in! 2 thumbs way up!

VERY UNSAFE AND STAFF NOT FRIENDLY
I went there last night and it just had too many dangerous conditions and the staff thought it was a joke. I would warn you to not go or be very care full. This the problem when kids are ion charge.

Had a little of everything!
Creepy from the get-go.! My family went in a large group, trying to stay huddled together. Did not work out that well! seemed like the GHOULS tried to separate us around every corner! Lots of scares, lots of walking, lots of fun! staff was courteous and helpfuk!

Wow. I went tonight and it kicked ass. 100 times better from last year... which was good... but this was amazing. The sign said preview but I don't know what else they could do on nights to come.... just awesome. 5 bats.... and going back.

best haunted house i have ever been to. i have been waiting to go to a haunted house that was not only scary, but different as well. this place had everything that you could think of and more. each room was amazing and the actors where out of this world. i was even nervous to look some of the actors in the eyes because they played their roles so well. i have been to many many haunted houses throughout long island and nothing compares to this. good job guys!!! can't wait to go back for 2011!!

One of the Best on LI
It's well worth the $13 to get in, it takes about 20 mins to go through and has lots of stuff going on. You're inside and outside on this horror adventure and it changes every year. If you like getting scared you love this one.
Posted October 2010 -
Had a good time
Took my kids age 13 and 11 last night and everyone had fun. There was lotsof atmosphere, dark and unsure trails. Actors were fine although having a groupin front spoiled the suprise. I would say a cut above the others I've been to. Alsoits about 20-25 min so its longer.

my girlfriend was screaming at the top of her lungs the entire time. she started crying at one point. it got kind of embarassing...she's 25

Wow...
I went with family on a thursday, and back with friends on saturday. Saturday is by far the best, all the actors are more hyped up and it is such a great time especially to be with people that are easily scared. The wait is rather long but if you go in with a positive attitude you will love it, if not..well then you write the crappy reviews like some people, but that's their problem. Massive props to whoever built the set and the story behind things. It isn't your average "boo" type of show, each actor portrays a character with a few boo tactics here and there. I don't want to give things away...but heads up for people that climb, fall, and run...they're all over and nothing is too expected, best yet, LOVED IT!

I WENT TO THIS HAUNTED HOUSE LAST NIGHT(SUNDAY) ONLY WAITED IN LINE 10MIN. NOT BAD AT ALL. I GOTTA SAY THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB(ACTORS AND DECORATIONS). THE BODY BAGS HANGING WERE SO FREAKING SCARY AND FELT SO REAL. I ALSO REALLY LIKE THE BUS WALK THROUGH. I MUST SAY THIS WAS REALLY SCARY AND I DONT GET SCARED EASILY.. GOOD JOB GUYS. WILL DEF RETURN NEXT YEAR

Great haunted house
Went to this last night (10/23/10) and it was so scay, I been to a couple haunted houses in the past and they were good for a laugh and fun, but this one actually scared me, you should definitely go if you want to have a good time and scream a lot, and just a fyi, in this house the further to the back of the group you are the more you get scared.
Posted October 2010 -
crazy good
the best haunted house on the island. period. the sets are very well done and everything just clicks. it all works, and it works well. i dont get scared easily but a few rooms got me, like the actor in the room with the bodies hanging from the celling, and the boy in the butcher shop. very well done. i would love to go again.

Universal Studios Quality!!!
I just got back from the haunt and I had to run and write my review. HOLY SUGAR SMACKS!!! That was great stuff! I could not believe all the fantastic aunthentic props that made up this house and it was such a pleasure to see the haunt was not littered in Party City props. Here were my personal favorites: 1: There was a kid that fell out a refrigerator and appeared to be frozen but the fear he displayed in his eyes is what creeped me out . Good Job Mr. Actor! 2: There was a young woman in the pallet zone outside that I remember telling her she was the best haunter yet. She said nothing but breathed heavily. It looked like she had a grey sack over her head. Scary! 3: The guy in the electric chair on tonight (Thursday) was very believeable once the switch was turned on. That tongue action was frightening! He really acted as if he were being fried! It goes without saying the people running the front for tickets and security were friendly as well. The only bummer was when we came around the x-ray area there were 2 girls at the end just talking and it appeared they were not expecting us. They screamed as if we scared them. Only moments later we found them caged asking us to help free them but by then it was too late it simply wasn't believable. It appears they were both "plants" only they failed to be successful because they were both too busy chit chatting instead of doing their jobs effectively. Shame Shame on you both. All in all it was a FABULOUSLY SCARY and ORIGINAL HAUNT! The absolute best in long island. Congratulations! I will certainly visit again next Thursday because it was just that Darn Great!

Fantastic- best on the Island
I went to this Haunted House on Sunday and had a great time. I went to other haunted houses Friday and Saturday and my experience on Sunday blew the other nights off the map. I love haunted houses and I am not easily scared- but this one got me.I feel that most of the haunted houses out here missed the mark this year, but the Playhouse people got it together- actors, sets, etc... I spoke to one of the directors at the end and he mentioned that almost everybody loved it and I see why. I am actually going to come back to this one and bringing more friends. Highly recommend- by far the bes ton the Island- and I have been to them all.

Long wait, but fun times
My friends and I went last night, Saturday at around 9. We had to wait half an hour just to purchase tickets, there were also no speed pass tickets left. After that we had to wait on the line to get in which didn't look too bad, but we ended up waiting 2-21/2 hours till we finally got in. The securtiy sucked anyone could just hop on and off the line and noone would do anything about it. There was a bathroom you could go inside and use. They also were selling beer $5, hot chocolate $2, apple cider $2, cookies/chips/candy $1, and hot pretzels $3(ran out quickly). While on the line I noticed they would let groups go in and then wait a long time till they let the next group go in. By 11:30 they were letting the groups go in alot closer together I guess they wanted to get out of there. When our group of 4 went in we were combined with a group of 6 and ended up meeting up with the group let in before us and after us. The haunted house was great though. You went inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs. I feel some parts could use more actors. I fell twice onto the ground because couldn't see where i was going and tripped in the dark with the stairs. Overall it was alot of fun and took 20-25 minutes to walk through. Last year my friends and I did Bayville which I think is overall the best, but this was definately up there.

We had an amazing time- awesome!
The reviews on here are right on, except for a couple. This Haunted House is different. If you like the familiar monster stuff, this probably isn't for you, except maybe a couple of rooms. Like i read on here, all inside are set ups that have you screaming or laughing, a lot! Very few to no manufactured halloween store scares, no dumb get ups, or make up. It's a spooky setting to begin with. Not a warehouse, they have a real haunted barn with a story. Its long. Not too pricey and there isn't one like it in the area. Both years have been great.. Thumbs up for a fun trip!

AWESOME TIME
My friends and I traveled from Babylon to Bellport to check out the haunted house- after reading about it on this website. I am so glad that we went- I never post reviews or anything on line for things like this, but I saw a couple reviews (all good but like one) before we went out and I wanted to confirm that it is a great haunted house and we had an awesome time. We really had a great time, screamed and laughed and everything. The costumes, make-up, and actors were great. The setting was great, too. I will be sure to come back next year and maybe even again this year.

One of the best in New York
I have been to many haunted houses all along the east coast and this has proven to be one of the best I have seen. My decision to come was made based on all of the great reviews from last year as well as a few from this year. It was well worth the three hour detour my family and I made while traveling to 'Headless Horseman' in Ulster. The sets were fantastic, costumes very realistic, certainly not what you would find in a cheesy costume store, and the actors were second to none. I would highly recommend stopping by and checking it out, well worth the $18 price tag.

Don't trust the reviewer who can't even spell the word 'Just'. This is the best haunted house I've been to, and I've been to many across the country.

SO NOT SCARY!!
I went with a group of friends and one kept saying she went before and it was scary. After waiting for a hour and a half we finally got in!! I get scaried very easily and i was waiting to be scared!! Most of the time we just walked though with nothing happening and then someone would walk over and just stare at you and some were just standing there not doing anything!!! I was very disappointed. The only things i liked about it was the little girl while you get your tickets inside and it had a planning go into setting it up but just not scary!!!!!!!

they did an amazing job on this one, great special effects, and actors were all great. the best thing about this though was the scenery. absolutely amazing, you never know what is around the next corner, and you will be extremely surprised. the last room was the only bummer, besides that though, absolutely incredible

Amazing preview cant wait!
Holy s#*t! I went to the $10.00 preview they had for oct 1st and 2nd (I went on the 2nd) and was blown away. This place "buries" the other long island haunts. I'm definitely going back for their full opening, I cant wait to see what new things they have, although I don't know how it can get much better. No joke several people in my group were crying during, and well after the haunted house walk which took us close to 35-40 minutes (FOR 10 BUCKS!), and one woman who walked with us literally couldn't stand by the end. We were all laughing at each other by the time we got out. So many good scares. so much misdirection, and so many unique things that I've never seen at any haunted houses (and I go to all of them all over the country) this is my new favorite local haunted house! I recommend to all, you wont be sorry!!I hope the other places have raised the bar as well, if they did this is going to be a phenomenal halloween season!

Great Time
We went for opening weekend, and it was a great start to the Halloween season. It was really well done, and a lot of fun. I would definately reccomend this to anyone else. We will definately go back again next season!

Pretty Well Done
I went the first weekend it opened, and it was still about an hour wait. Th ticket booth was tucked in the corner, and I had to ask several times to find it. They had warm drinks avaliable, which was nice. With the hype about it, I was already pretty nervous. The story however was looped, and it felt a little awkward more than scary when you walked in to hear it. They had the story posted up, but the font was so tiny and because it was right before you went in, you didn't get to read it. Going through it, there;s a lot of steps up and down. You get cast in darkness, you see different sights. I think they did a really good job. It was easy to sneak up and scare my friends while on the group ghost tour. I only wish it was a little less busy, because you go in pretty big groups. If you went with only yours friends, it'd be a bit more spooky.

FANTASTIC
Wow. I attend all of the Haunted Houses on Long Island and this is is by FAR the best. I only regret I didnt see it last year. The actors are great- in your face and scary-- the make-up is also incredible. I admit, i didnt know what to expect, but when i saw that it was only 10 bucks the first weekend I thought I would give it a try. SUCCESS! It scared the pants of me and my group of friends and we plan to go back on Halloween week and will pay full price (of only 18 bucks). Worth the trip from Nassau. Highy recommend.
Posted October 2010 -
Was better last year but still good!
Although the story which they tell you was different from last year which was awesome, this year, the actors were not as "in your face". The constant screaming in your face and interaction from the actors was not as intense as last year which made it not as scary for me. Although I was anticipating what I was going to see next, I felt that I got thru it faster this year which was about 25-30 minutes. The entire walk thru is amazing and the make up and scenes were as well. The electrocution room at the end was not as good as the pych ward ending from last year which was very disturbing. I would still recommend it, but was expecting more from the actors as last year. I also did like that refreshments were available while you wait on line, which was 1 hour from the time we got there. It was worth the drive and I would do it again.

Great story, lighting, and sets.A good story really makes it the best haunted house I've ever been to... It gives it depth unlike all of those OTHER haunted houses which are just there for cheap scares. This was absolutely wonderful.

The whole experience was chilling and beyond scary. I'm a haunted house fanatic and I must admit this place most definitely ruffled my feathers. The actors are convincing and play their roles very well! I recommend trying this place out."It's October, everyone's entitled to one good scare. "

Phenomenal. It was sooooo SCARYYyyy. I went with my boyfriend and I was screaming the wholee time.. even my boyfriend was scared! He takes me to all the haunted houses and it was soo cool. It had a story line, and it was like a haunted house and it was so cool. The actors in it were SO GOOD. at the other places the people are usually so over the top and fake but I was actually afraid of them. It was so cool I ahd no idea where i was going.. it just kept going in these cool pathways..up and down stairs.. and outside.. Im going again this weekend with my girlfriends and i think a bunch of my friends are going again for halloween.

Truly Unique
I went to the Opening Night of the Haunted Playhouse and had a fantastic time. The theater has done something different than any other Haunted Attraction I have been to. There are NO cheesey animatronics and they do not rely on over doing special effects. The setting itself is eerie and the actors are outstanding. I don't want to give too much away but the school bus and chainsaw guy alone make it worth your time and price of admission.

Unique and Scary- Go!
like the other posters I just read, i thought the whole thing was really done well. great theme. the actors are better than usual, they have scares everywhere and unique set ups, two real theaters, two mazes, one in this wooded location. the bus was freaky. the girls were too scared to finish. they grabbed onto us and looked down near the end to get thru it. our trip through was somewhere between 15-20 minutes. there was a very short wait, but since it's new, that may change once word gets out. plenty of parking, definitely worth the trip, and a great price. we may go again halloween weekend.
